Senator Rolle must resign

EDITOR, The Tribune

The disgusting behaviour of Senator Lanisha Rolle towards Long Island MP Loretta Butler-Turner was despicable and downright nasty to say the least.

The unwarranted attack speaks to the hatred built up in a woman who has been recently appointed to the upper house, even though no one can remember anything that she did to deserve it, other than being good friends with the leader. Her attack was definitely personal. I am not sure if it was because she wants what’s best for the party or what’s best for Minnis.

The outburst by Senator Rolle on Shenique Miller’s show speaks to a deeper issue. On many talk shows, many could easily assume that she was the spokesperson for the Free National Movement and specifically the leader, Dr Hubert Alexander Minnis.

Since she is the person who sells Minnis’ message, it is easy to conclude that she was directed by Minnis himself to say what she said. It would be hard-pressed to believe that she acted alone.

The wedge between the two sides of the FNM would not have any chance of coming together unless and until Minnis and Chairman Michael Pintard publicly distance themselves from the statement made by Senator Rolle attacking a sitting MP. Otherwise, the public would have no choice to believe that she was speaking for Minnis.

Finally, if uniting the FNM is a priority for Minnis and Pintard, and if she acted alone, then she is now a liability for the FNM, and should tender her resignation forthwith in the interest of a fractured party that needs to seriously work toward uniting, especially if it has any chance of winning.

So the onus is on Minnis and Pintard to fix this embarrassing situation. “Whom the gods will destroy, they first make mad!”

Rolle should resign and Minnis should admit that he is not the best leader for the party, take the Ministry of Health position and call it a day.

You don't want him to take that position again!! His first stab at it left many parts of it on life support.

The FNM is determined to destroy itself. Minnis is not the man to take the country forward with this level of insecurity as party leader. He is clearly not a team builder and his decision making is completely suspect. The party has one last chance to sort itself out and that can only be at a full voting convention.
