THE body of Corporal Jamal Freddie Munnings will lay in repose for public viewing at the Gerald Bartlett Police Headquarter Complex in Freeport on Wednesday.

Commissioner of Police Ellison Greenslade is expected to go to Grand Bahama for the viewing. Cpl Munnings, 33, was attached to the Police Fire Branch and had been on the force for 11 years.

The officer was reported missing on January 11 and was last seen driving his Nissan Frontier truck. After he failed to report for work, concerns were raised and a search was launched.

Munnings’ body was discovered on January 14 near the North Star Resort on Fortune Bay Drive. His truck had been found in a canal and his body was found some distance away in the water.

Family and police officers were devastated.

At the time, police were not certain what happened or how the officer died, and were waiting for the results of an autopsy.

Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police Emrick Seymour described Cpl Munnings as a very hard working officer.

Cpl Munnings leaves behind a wife, Suze Munnings, and a daughter, Nivaeh Munnings.

Viewing starts at 9am to 11am for police officers and from 12 noon to 6pm on Wednesday for the public.

A full military funeral service will be held at 10am at Jubilee Cathedral, Settlers Way on January 28.
