Regatta Time Again: Purse for South Andros Homecoming Festival - $10,000

IT is regatta time again and Solar Verde Bahamas Limited is prepped and ready to go for the start of the South Andros Regatta festivities scheduled for June 2-5 in The Bluff, South Andros.

Last year, Solar Verde Bahamas Limited along with Nick Cara and the Gladiators mixed and mingled with the people of South Andros, taking the regatta to a whole new high.

This year’s regatta line-up consists of sloop sailing - C Class and E Class boats, Gumelimi boat race and Excursion boat races.

Entertainment will be provided by The Falcons, Touch Down Band, Funky D, Elon Moxey & Tim Fire and for the children there will be a show featuring The Yellow Bahamian.

SVBL, led by its CEO Mrs Rita Grant, has kept their commitment of doubling the regatta prize money from $2,500 the first year to $5,000 last year, and this year will be no different.

Yes people, the regatta purse for the South Andros Regatta Homecoming Festival this year is $10,000, the biggest it has ever been and, according to Mrs Grant: “Solar Verde Bahamas Limited is proud to deliver on the commitment that they made to the people of South Andros to increase the size of the regatta purse each year. This is what we do, we honour our commitments.”

Mrs Grant went on to say that when Solar Verde Bahamas Limited made the decision to come to South Andros and invest, the plan moving forward was always to do everything within their power to build South Andros and the people of South Andros in every way possible.

This year, as a matter of fact, Solar Verde is delivering on another commitment that they made to the people of South Andros. They are delivering on their commitment to provide jobs by opening the doors of a local restaurant called Skippers that is located in Kemp’s Bay, South Andros.

This coming Thursday, Kemp’s Bay South Andros and Skippers Restaurant will come alive to the sounds of their own homegrown band, The Touch Down Band. This group of singers and musicians will provide the pulsating music that will set the tune for the patrons of skippers as they chow down on delicious chicken wings, delectable hamburgers and fries and of course “conchy” conch fritters and so much more.

“This is just the beginning of what we will be bringing to South Andros in terms of jobs.

“In the upcoming weeks, Solar Verde will begin the training programme that we have spoken about. This training programme will pave the way for hundreds of Androsians to become employed first and then the training programme will be open to other Bahamians,” said Mrs Grant.

Solar Verde Bahamas Limited is a ‘eco-friendly’ development that will begin construction of their first phase in South Andros within the next two month.

The project is expected to pump $3.5 million into the South Andros economy and create around 180 jobs during the first phase.

The five-phase Solar Verde Bahamas project, which includes a marina and retail outlets at Kemp’s Bay, broke ground in May last year.

Finally, Mrs Grant stated that Solar Verde Bahamas Limited is ready to go.

“We are excited, our team is on the ground and we are looking forward to getting started. The sponsorship of the regatta and the opening of Skippers restaurant is the prelude to what is to come in South Andros in the next few weeks.”
