A WARNING of heavy rain for Freeport, Grand Bahama, is in force for Friday afternoon and evening, with lightning, high winds and flooding expected.
Accuweather has issued a Skyguard alert for showers and thunderstorms approaching the area from the west as well as developing over the island from 4.45pm to 8.30pm. The primary threat from these storms will be lightning and heavy rainfall, though a locally strong wind gusts in excess of 40mph cannot be ruled out.
Rainfall rates may exceed 0.50 inches per hour at times. Rainfall totals from these storms will range between 0.40-0.80 inches, though locally higher amounts in excess of 1.25 inches will be possible. This could result in flooding, particularly of low-lying and poor drainage areas.
