AS they prepare to complete the transition toward university status, the College/University of the Bahamas protected home court in their last act as the Caribs.

The Caribs completed a successful two-game sweep over the Trinity College Bantams at the Kendal Isaacs Gymnasium over the weekend.

They completed the sweep with Saturday’s 72-69 win led by Justin Smith’s 28 points, seven rebounds and three steals.

Kemsey Sylvestre finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds, Ramon Dames filled the stat sheet with six points, five rebounds and five steals while Franklin McKenzie added five points and nine rebounds.

DeLino Dumas led Trinity with 20 points, eight rebounds and three blocked shots, Eliseo Sanchez added 12 points, Khalil Banton scored 10 and Kevin Simmons had six points and 10 rebounds.

“We played this team last year and we kind of knew what to expect when they got here,” said Caribs head coach Bacchus Rolle. “We tried to limit their transition baskets. They forced us out of our zone, but we were able to find success playing man to man. “We played two good games and it’s good we could get two wins ahead of this week’s rebranding. These games also gave us a good idea of what we need to work on as we move forward.”

They outscored the Bantams by seven points off turnovers (17-10), by four points in the paint (38-34) and seven on second chance points (16-9).

In game one on Friday night, the Caribs won decisively 76-62.

Sylvestre led the way with a double double - 20 points, 11 rebounds and an assist. Smith added 13 points and seven steals while Justin Monroe added 11.

Tracy Forbes led Trinity with 20 points and six rebounds, Sanchez scored 15 and Dumas added nine.

COB scored 23 points off the bench and 24 points off turnovers.

It was the second edition of the school’s homecoming.

“I think our school did extremely well in supporting our team and I think this will be the way forward as we transition into a university this week,” said COB assistant athletic director Sean Bastian. “This speaks volumes as to what campus life will include as a university. “As far as the effort of the team, they really played well in both games. They will play Trinity again in January in Tampa, and we’re looking for more opportunities like this to continue to grow our programme.”

This year’s men’s basketball team is made up of players from New Providence, Grand Bahama, Exuma and Eleuthera.
