ANOTHER junior national team standout swimmer has decided on the collegiate programme where he will continue his swimming career.
Freestyle and breaststroke sprinter Gershwin Greene has verbally committed to the University of Virginia Tech Hokies.
“I made my decision to swim for the Virginia Tech Hokies because of the welcoming team and coaching staff, the separate sprint group and the unparalleled academics.
“When I went on my visit there I knew that it had every resource imaginable to take me to where I want to go as an athlete and person,” he told Swimming World.
“The coaches also believed in my potential to develop into an elite sprinter. I could not have been more excited to swim and study there. Go Hokies!”
Greene was recently a member of the Bahamas’ six-member team at the Junior Pan Pacific Championships where he reached the B Final in the 50 metre Freestyle.
His personal best times in his signature events include 21.13 seconds in the 50m Free, 46.59 in the 100m free and 59.44 in the 100m Breast.
This year he was also a co-captain of the Bahamas’ CARIFTA swim team in his last appearance of the meet.
The team finished second in their bid for a third consecutive meet title.
A former student at St Andrew’s School, Greene is currently in his senior season at The Baylor School in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and is a member of the Baylor Swim Club.
