Belinda Wilson elected again as BUT president

EMBATTLED former President of the Bahamas Union of Teachers (BUT) Belinda Wilson was returned to the helm of the organisation yesterday, according to unofficial results.

The BUT held an election for its executive slate yesterday.

In 2014, Mrs Wilson and BUT Treasurer Lorraine Knowles were suspended amid allegations from the union’s executive committee that more than $1.1m from the union’s pension and savings account was wrongfully spent.

In January 2015, Mrs Wilson had her suspension overturned by a three member appeals committee, that said it found no evidence of wrongdoing on the part of the president as was alleged. In March of that year, however, Mrs Wilson and Mrs Knowles were again served with another suspension for “blatant violations” of the union’s constitution.

Mrs Wilson was later suspended “indefinitely” pending the results of a police investigation into alleged violations of union procedures.

She had been embroiled in a bitter dispute with members of the union’s executive team over the accusations and frequently locked horns with Zane Lightbourne, who served as acting president during her suspension.

This victory by Belinda Wilson aka War General is a forerunner to the fact that the PLP will LOSE the next election .......... Fitzgerald used his lackey Zane Lightbourne to silence BMW for the past 4 years, so he could run roughshod over teachers ............ but the sham was realized and Zane and Fitzgerald will be gone soon .......... Too bad for all of the PLP poodles in Education ......... your days are NUMBERED .............. Education needs some serious professional overhaul, starting with finding new innovative senior leadership and creating a real focus for public education reform (not a stupid meaningless high school diploma)
