The basketball park in Nassau Village will be transformed into a live theatre this Sunday, as the Holy Cross Anglican Church’s Project LEAD takes centre stage.

The project seeks to ‘Love, Evangelise, Aid and Disciple’ (LEAD) those in their path in their journey to becoming good stewards and disciples of Jesus.

There are a number of events that have taken place and will continue to be undertaken by this programme.

And on Palm Sunday, the traditional services will be enhanced by Project LEAD’s efforts as Holy Cross takes to the streets of Nassau Village.

Church member Philip Gray applauded his priest, Canon Norman Lightbourne, for answering the call to go out into Nassau Village and the surrounding areas of the church.

Sunday’s services will commence with a motorcade leaving the church headed into Nassau Village. Accompanied by the sounds of Junkanoo, a clarion call will go out to all believers. After that, a special church service will be held in the heart of the community.

Then, a Palm Sunday procession will be led by the church’s band to the basketball park for a short theatrical Easter production which will be incorporated into the service. A full-length play and musical takes places later, at 6.30pm, at the park.

Holy Cross promises the audience will witness elaborate costumes, professional sound and lighting, and the hard work of a cast of 45, who reenact the Passion and some scenes from Jesus’ birth to His resurrection.

Mr Gray, who has been instrumental in shaping Project LEAD, said no one will have seen an Easter production of this quality in the Bahamas.

“It is going to be amazing to witness. There are intense scenes with some light moments; video footage from the movie ‘The Passion of Christ’ to enhance and highlight the stage acts,” he said. “It is the greatest story ever told. It is the life of Jesus. We have dubbed this work ‘God so Love the world’.”

The production was written and is being co-directed by Paulette Higgs.

“This work has the potential to exceed our expectations and that of our viewers. The production is free to all and should not be missed at 9am in the outdoor service or the full scale drama at 6.30pm – all held at the basket ball courts in Nassau Village,” said Mr Gray.
