WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

SWEEPSTAKES

THE Bahamas Association of Athletic Associations is offering a sweepstakes for the IAAF World Championships in London, England.

At the conclusion of the IAAF World Relays Bahamas 2017, scheduled for April 27-28, a $15,000 round trip for two will be won for the World Championships, set for August 3-14 at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

The package will include round trip tickets for two from Nassau to London and back, first class hotel accommodations for 10 nights, two tickets daily to the IAAF World Championships, ground transportation and $1,000 cash per person for meal allowance.

Sweepstakes tickets are priced at $10 and can be purchased at the Thomas A Robinson National Stadium ticket booth or from Laketah Charlton at 468-5592 or Doris Wood at 809-3171.

GOLF

GRAND JR NATIONALS

THE Bahamas Golf Federation’s 2017 Northern Bahamas Junior Open Golf Championships will be held Saturday to Sunday (June 3-4) at the Ruby Golf Club in Freeport, Grand Bahama.

The format is stroke play with the juniors playing from appropriate yardages based on their divisions. The entry fee is $30. The divisions are boys and girls under-18, under-13 and under-10.

The first round will begin at 2 pm. The final day of competition will begin at 9am. The lunch and awards ceremony will follow at 6:30 pm. Interested persons can email magouthro@gmail.com or info@fourteenclubsgolfacademy.com or call 828-4653.

SOFTBALL/BASEBALL

GSSSA FINALS

THE Government Secondary Schools Sports Association will begin their 2017 softball best-of-three championships today in the National Softball Stadium in the Banker’s Field at the Baillou Hills Sporting Complex.

The match-ups are as follows - softball for girls and baseball for boys:

Junior girls - Sc McPherson

Sharks vs DW Davis Pitbulls

Junior boys - HO Nash Lions vs

AF Adderley Fighting Tigers

Senior girls - CV Bethel Stingrays vs Government High Magics.

Senior boys - CR Walker Knights vs Government High Magics.

Game two in all of the series will be played on Tuesday, starting at 4pm. If necessary, the third and deciding games will be played on Wednesday.

Entry into the games will be $1 for students in uniform and $2 for those without. Adults, including teachers, will be charged $3.

TENNIS

BAIN BIRTHDAY GIFT

Bahamian junior tennis player Jacobi Bain will be celebrating his 14th birthday today by winning the Inspiration Tennis Academy April Level 6 Championships Boys’ Under-18 title in Sarasota, Florida. He did it by winning the final on Sunday with a 6-4, 6-3. This is Bain’s first tournament since returning from Europe in mid-April.
