UNDER the theme “Let Heaven and Nature Sing”, members of the St Matthew’s Anglican Sunrise Choir and Friends will host their 12th annual Christmas production.

Taking place next Friday, December 8, at 7.30 pm and Saturday, December 9, at 7pm at the St Matthew’s Anglican Church, organisers describe the event as having a “Christmas on Broadway” feeling.

“There will be vocals, drama and dance, with the opening number being the most entertaining, as it features popular Christmas favourites intertwined with dynamic characters and personalities, and also an interesting mix of cartoon characters in a toy parade,” said Marjorie Knowles, Sunrise Choir director.

“Another thing that is really exciting is the entry of Santa Claus. This moment has been one of our highlights for the past 12 years and is always well received by adults and children alike.”

Even after more than a decade, the Christmas production is still a source of excitement for choir members, who stage the event as way to raise funds for those in need.

“It is always a pleasure to host this most entertaining and uplifting spiritual celebration of our Saviour’s birth. We are looking forward to having a packed house to share our talents with. This is an event that all members of the choir enjoy doing. They look forward to entertaining and getting everyone into the spirit of Christmas,” said Ms Knowles.

The first Christmas production, she explained, came about to assist a three-year-old girl who was in the final stages of leukaemia and desperately needed a bone marrow transplant.

“The medical costs were exorbitant as the procedure had to be done in the United States of America. The family had no medical insurance and we decided to help by doing what we do best – singing and performing. Suffice it to say, the little girl survived and the rest is history,” said Ms Knowles.

“This event is important because not only does it prepare the attendees for the upcoming celebration of Jesus’ birth; it is also a medium by which the choir solicits financial assistance to assist with worthy causes within the church community. From social outreach to medical emergencies.”

This year, proceeds will go towards hurricane relief efforts.
