The Grand Bahama Chamber of Commerce partnered with businesses, local government and a contractor to clean up three areas that have been used for dumping in east Grand Bahama.
Rudy Sawyer, operator of Blue Green Outdoors, a nature-based company offering land and sea tours in the East End, co-ordinated the effort.
"East End of Grand Bahama is well known for its rich ecological attributes," Mr Sawyer said, "and it is unfortunate when this is spoilt by human action, as in this case, indiscriminate dumping."
Alfred Higgs, a contractor from McLean's Town, was hired to remove out debris that had been dumped alongside roads in the eastern district, and move it to the designated waste processing site.
The Grand Bahama Chamber of Commerce helped co-ordinate funding for the project from four of its members, namely: Pharmachem Technologies; Bradford Marine Bahamas; Bahamian Brewery & Beverages; and Freeport Ship Services.
Daniel Bain, the deputy chief councillor and township representative for McLean's Town; Wilton Thomas, township representative; Marcus Cooper, chief councillor; and Harvey Roberts, administrator for the east, all inspected the area after the job was completed by the contractor.
