SWIMMING:

CARGILL ELECTED TO FINA BUREAU

BAHAMAS Swimming Federation president Algernon Cargill has been elected to serve as a member of the FINA Bureau.

The election took place at the FINA General Congress that was held in Budapest, Hungary over the weekend. The Bureau will serve for 2017-2012.

“I am excited about this opportunity which positions me as one of the Global Leaders in Aquatics Sports,” Cargill said.

“The appointment evidences the leadership put into the Bahamas Aquatics Federation, CCCAN as well as results we have been able to deliver in The Bahamas.”

Cargill said the federation was recognised by the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture as the Federation of the year in 2015, the only time the MOYSC presented this award because of their success and the goals we have achieved over the term of my presidency.

“I am the outright appointee from the Central American and Caribbean Region, a division of the Americas, and Errol Clarke from Barbados was also elected today as the World at Large Nominee through an election process,” Cargill said.

“So, there are two of us representing the Caribbean on the FINA Bureau, and we are accompanied by one American, Dale Neuburger, one Canadian, Margo Montjoy, and one Paraguyan, Juan Carlos Orihuela Garcete.”

The appointment is the first in the region and it positions the Bahamas very positively in the global aquatic sports leadership.
