NPBA BASKETBALL

THE New Providence Basketball Association resumed its regular season action at the AF Adderley Gymnasium on Wednesday night after taking a break for the 35th Hugh Campbell Basketball Classic for senior boys.

In the two games played, Athletico Bahamas defeated the Triple K Stampers 70-58 and the Shockers knocked off the Double R Cleaners 85-72.

Shockers 85, Cleaners 72: Floyd Armbrister, in 27 minutes, scored a game high 21 points, shooting 8-for-19 from the field, 3-for-6 from the three-point line and 2-for-3 from the free throw line, in the win. Armbrister also had six rebounds, four assists and four steals.

Salathiel Dean added 17 points, seven rebounds and three assists, William Rigby also had 17 points with eight rebounds as he came off the bench and Kamal Murphy helped out with 13 points and five rebounds.

In a losing effort, Tamiko King led the way with 19 points, six assists, four rebounds and four steals.Herbert Knowles had 14 points and seven rebounds and Kendrick Humes 13.

RUGBY

HEINEKEN CUP

THE Bahamas Rugby Union will continue their Heineken Cup competition this Saturday with games played in Grand Bahama and New Providence.

In Grand Bahama, Freeport will play Baillou at the Freeport Rugby Club, starting at 2:30pm.

Here in New Providence, the Cuckoos will take on Baillou at the Winton Rugby Centre, starting at 3 pm.

Condolences

The BRFU is sad to report the passing of Edward Isaacs earlier this week. Edward has been a big part of the rugby community for as long as any of us can remember.

The BRU offered its sympathies to Janeen, Jon, Maurice and Isaacs family.

THE top scorer in Financial Bowling League competition last night was Mark Munnings of Deloitte & Touché with a 545 high three game set. 

The runner-up was  Kevin B Williams of Strike Force with a 533 second high set. Keith Jones of Best Deal Kirki Bar had the high game of 203, edging out a 202 from Philip Davis of Moonlight Strikers.

The ladies’ MVP was Joy Lockhart of BTC Night Hawks with a 188 high game and a 524 high three game set.

Uchenna Delva of Deloitte & Touché followed her with a 476 second high set.

Xynea Johnson, also of Deloitte & Touché, downed the pins for the second high game of 178.

PLAYERS BATTLE

THE battle with the top Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association’s junior tennis players versus the Girls Tennis Players will take place 4pm Monday at the National Tennis Centre.

In attendance will be Angelo Anstopoulo, the director of tennis and head women’s coach at the College of the Charleston.

ROAD RACE

The 10th Annual Uncle Lou 10K road race, formerly the Uncle Lou Fun Run/Walk, is all set for Saturday, April 8.

The event will start in Rawson Square at 6am and will finish on St Augustine’s College grounds.

The event is being organised by the SAC Alumni Association and held in memory of the late Leviticus ‘Uncle Lou’ Adderley, former principal of St Augustine’s College.

Pre-registration will begin on Monday. Interested persons can go online to sacalumni.com or get their registration forms from St Augustine’s College.

The registration fee is $25.
