BOTH last year’s defending champions Scottsdale Vixens and National Fence Intruders won the first two games of the New Providence Volleyball Association’s best-of-five championship series at the DW Davis Gymnasium.
Game three in both series is all set to be played tonight at the DW Davis Gymnasium with women’s play starting at 7:30pm and the men’s at 9pm.
On Wednesday night, the Game 2s were filled with passion, drive and resulted in who wanted it most.
Women’s Division
The Scottsdale Vixens defeated the Johnson Lady Truckers in three straight sets with scores of 25-19, 25-16, 28-26. The top scorers for the Vixens were Brianne Bates with 17 points won, including 14 kills, two blocks and a service ace, Q’jannis Quey Wilson with 13 points and Melinda Bastian with 8 points. Setter Laval Roker had 39 excellent sets and a service ace. Libero Latondra Brown had 8 successes.
In a losing effort for the Truckers, Davia Moss was the best scorer totaling 8 points with 5 kills, 2 service aces and a block and Kelsie Johnson had 7 points - 6 kills and a block). Setter: Mechelle Moss had 8 excellent sets and the libero was Sherline Moss.
Men’s Division
The National Fence Intruders defeated the Defenders 3-2 with scores of 25-23, 25-27, 22-25, 25-22, 15-13.
The top scorer for the Intruders was Prince Wilson with 30 points, coming off 24 kills, three service aces and three blocks. Dellan Brown assisted with 29pts (22kills, 7 blocks), Glen Rolle had 10 points and Arison Wilson had 8 points.
Setting for the Intruders was Javari Southard with 57 excellent sets and 35 digs.
In a losing effort, top scorer for the Defenders Byron Ferguson led with 21 points on 18 kills and three blocks. Je’Vaughn Saunders assisted with 17 points on 13 kills and 4 blocks. Lorenzo Williams III had 10 points and Endierich Rahming had 7 points. Setting for the Defenders was Tonny Simon with 51 excellent sets and Libero Garry Greenslade Jr had seven successful digs and 36 receptions.
The NPVA expressed its thanks to all present at the games - all teams, players and coaches for their dedication and passion for the game of volleyball.
