DEMOCRATIC National Alliance Leader Branville McCartney yesterday said a writ has been filed in the Supreme Court against Omar Archer Sr for allegations made against him.
Mr McCartney, during a press conference at DNA headquarters on East Street South, said he has alerted the police to Mr Archer’s allegations and has filed a lawsuit against the one time chairman of the now defunct third party, the Bahamas Democratic Movement (BDM) for “defamatory, libelous and scandalous” comments.
Mr McCartney also said Mr Archer’s alleged statements were indicative of “gutter” politics.
In a Facebook Live video posted over the past week, Mr Archer allegedly cautioned Mr McCartney to not criticise or speak ill of Free National Movement (FNM) Leader Dr Minnis, while making salacious allegations against the former Bamboo Town MP.
He also threatened to reveal allegations about Mr McCartney’s family business and other personal details should the DNA leader not take heed.
When questioned on the matter yesterday, Mr McCartney said: “I’ve been in contact with the police with the comments made by that gentleman, and today we’ve sent a writ down to the Supreme Court in a suit against him for comments made (related) to that.
“It’s gutter politics, we plan on staying away from that type of politics, we plan on dealing with the issues, we plan on dealing with the concerns that the country has and we plan on putting forward like we’ve done over the last five years the policies and the position of the DNA and how we wish to run the country and how we wish to fix the situation.
“This gutter politics is something that should not happen. I certainly won’t practice it or get personal with anybody. So I’ve taken the necessary steps in relation to the threats in terms of the police and in terms of things that were said that were defamatory, libelous and scandalous. I’ve filed suit, as a matter of fact the writ is down at the courts today.”

Don't blame you McCartney. It's outright libel. Dude runs around in a red shirt making videos promoting all things Dr Minnis and anti PLP - unabated it seems. Wonder if he's on the good doctor's payroll. Doc, you need to put that dog on a leash!
