THE Lively Stone Church of God, which started out as a church for senior citizens, celebrates its 19th anniversary this Sunday.

The anniversary of organisation is being observed at the church on Knowles Drive, off Tonique Williams Darling Highway, at 11am.

The theme of the celebrations is “Reaching for the Prize”, with its scriptural focus taken from Colossians 3:22-25.

The church is led by Rev Angela Pratt-Rolle, who serves as the ministry’s second pastor, succeeding the late Bishop Godfrey K Hepburn who was selected as the church’s founding pastor in May 1998.

The congregation was established 19 years ago by a majority of retirees and those nearing retirement age. These pioneers worshipped initially in a storefront location on Jennie Street. After being blessed with a tent they held services under that tent.

Eventually, the membership realised their dream of marching into their fully furnished edifice on Knowles Drive. Today, the ministry has blossomed into a church family of wide age ranges, diverse nationalities and varied socio-economic statuses.

The ministry continues to develop and embraces its vision and mission to serve God prayerfully and faithfully.

At the anniversary service, the membership will recognise and honour four outstanding church members: Deacon Arthur Dorsett, Deacon Seldon Adderley, Sister Verdell McKenzie and Sister Kaivonne Newbold.

These individuals have served in vital capacities and continue to make generous contribution of their time, wisdom and resources to the church and community.

Delivering the sermon for the occasion is Bishop Lindo Wallace, the senior pastor of the historic Church of God Temple, Coconut Grove, and the district pastor for the West New Providence District of the Highway Church of God (Bahamas).
