Today, I’m not talking to that two to three, or three to four type of mother. I’m talking about the ‘almost;’ new mom that is inevitably and absolutely gaga, goo-goo, and smitten with their child. The type of mom that never knew how amazing motherhood would be and is completely astonished at how quickly that, “Oh, I’m going to have my baby on my schedule” mentality goes out-the-door.
If this is you, you’re probably being bombarded by the “are you going to have another one?” question.
It’s OK to roll your eyes (on the inside) and yes, you are totally allowed to enjoy your first child for as long as you want to. Who wants two kids in diapers or two kids in college at the same time, right?
Go on, take as long as you need, but if you think or worry that you may not ever feel the same way about having another child, the love that is, then think again, and let that thought go. Yes, you will. I can almost guarantee it. Here are a few things to mull over if you’re playing with the idea of having another baby:
• Love has no limits.
And there you go; it’s like ‘duh’, right? Your heart can hold as much love as you want it to; it’s not governed by any sort of capacity, it just exists, multiplies and grows. Thank goodness for that! Can you imagine if love ran out? Holy moly, that would be terrible.
• They have each other.
It’s a tough world out there, wouldn’t it be a shame to face it all alone? It’s always better to have some family than no family. Your kids would share the same genetics and might actually be life-long friends.
• They’ll learn to share.
Let’s be honest, it sucks to share but it’s a good way to learn some life skills so that we don’t become too selfish. When you don’t always get your way, and you have to compromise and share things, you develop a certain sense of empathy for others.
• Playtime is good.
Remember when the ‘Frozen’ movie came out? I must have watched that film 50 times. Sometimes, I would sing “Let it Go” over and over in my head; it was stuck in there. Well, wouldn’t it be wonderful if you had two kids that could watch their movies together, as many times as they want, and you could actually read a book. Sweet!
Having more than one child is really a blessing. If you’re able to, you should definitely do it. I can’t tell you how complete your life will feel when you decide to extend your family. Sure, it’s a little more work and more money, but it’s so worth it.
Love and hugs!
