CHAMPION BOXING

JYLES Etienne defended his St Anthony’s Invitational high jump crown earlier this week with a leap of 2.20m or 7-feet, 2 1/2-inches.

The incredible leap had far reaching effects on numerous records and standings. Due to inclement weather, the event was held indoors, meaning he moves to US number one indoor this year by an astonishing 1.5 inches. He broke the Suffolk County indoor record, his own school record, and moves to NY No.2 all-time indoors. He is also tied for 4th on the World Under-20 indoor list.

The Indiana University-bound senior has several big meets ahead of him this spring. He is hoping to defend his overall New York State crown and to improve on his runner-up finish at the New Balance Outdoor Nationals.

Etienne is a native of Nassau, Bahamas. He began attending the Stony Brook School in New York in 2014.
