GSSSA soccer season kicks off at the Roscoe Davies field

THE Government Secondary Schools Sports Association’s soccer programme got underway this week under clear blue skies and with teams anxious to get their season underway.

On Monday, in senior boys’ action, RM Bailey defeated CV Bethel boys 1-0 in an exciting game. In the other boys’ game, CI Gibson kicked off their run for the Cup with a 1-0 win over Doris Johnson.

In senior girls’ matchups, CV Bethell rode two goals from Amoss Ferguson and one from Regine Cambridge to defeat RM Bailey girls 3-0. This win staked the Lady Stingrays claim to the title which they are favoured to win.

In the other senior girls’ game on Monday, Doris Johnson Mystic Marlins won a closely contested game 1-0 over CI Gibson Lady Rattlers.

CR Walker Lady Knights began their defence of their GSSSA Championship with a 3-0 lashing of Anatol Rodgers. They got a brace of goals from Bernadette Nelson who missed out her hat trick when she missed her penalty kick. The Lady Knights also got a goal from midfielder Lovena Denord. Their defence was solid as they turned back numerous attempts by the Mystic Marlins. The defence was led by Atlisha Major.

In the other girls’ game on the day, the CC Sweeting Lady Cobras stung the Government High School Lady Magic 2-1 to open their account. From the games played so far, this season is shaping up to be a barn burner.

GHS Magic cast a serious spell over the CC Sweeting Cobras at the RALD to the tune of 6-0.

The Magic displayed more skill and tactics than the Cobras. They look like a serious contender for the championship crown currently held by the CR Walker Knights who played in the second game.

Brandon Adderley celebrated his first game as a Knight with two goals as he helped the defending champions defeat the Timberwolves 2-0.
