A MAN will learn next week whether he will be released on bail before his retrial on a murder charge.

Denico Bowe, 24, stood trial before Senior Justice Bernard Turner concerning the October 9, 2015, killing of Straus Edwards.

Shortly before 10pm on the date in question, Edwards was getting into a vehicle at Potter’s Cay, when two men armed with handguns approached and opened fire before fleeing on foot.

Edwards died from his injuries in hospital.

Bowe, when formally arraigned in Supreme Court in January 2016, denied committing the crime and maintained his not guilty plea at his trial when it began earlier this month.

However, a Supreme Court jury last Friday returned a guilty verdict of 11-1, which was not acceptable in law.

As a result, a date for retrial has to be fixed.

Meanwhile, Bowe is making an application for bail in the interim, which is scheduled to be heard on May 25.

A date for his new trial will also be fixed at that time.

Denard Brown and Jackie Forbes-Foster prosecuted the case while David Cash represented the accused.
