EDITOR, The Tribune
I WAS disappointed to see your headline in today's Tribune of "Police Kill Boy As He Steals Cigarettes". A more appropriate headline should have read "Police Kill Thug As He Shoots At Officers."
Let's call it for what it is. They are not "boys" just stealing "cigarettes", but rather lawless thugs hell-bent on terrorising innocent citizens. It is not petty theft by children, but armed robbery with intent to harm.
I commend the police for responding so quickly and am glad no officers were hurt in this incident. As for the "boys", I weep for the mother who now has to bury a son, but have no sympathy for the thugs. Let them be removed from society so they cannot hurt again. No bail and no leniency for youth.
We must have a zero tolerance to crime - no matter who the offenders are.
