EDITOR, The Tribune.
Sir Etienne Dupuch Lifetime Achievement Award winner for excellence in journalism, Gladstone Thurston, paid tribute to his mentor, Mrs Eileen Dupuch-Carron, during Saturday night’s Bahamas Press Club’s awards banquet.
Thurston’s professional career in front line journalism spans more than 40 years, 20 of which he spent at The Tribune.
Said Thurston: “In reality, this award ought to be presented to Mrs Eileen Dupuch-Carron, publisher/editor of The Tribune because, to the extent that I was able to attain such high standards to be even considered for this award it is all due to the endeavours of her; her husband, a true media gentleman, Roger P Carron; Mrs Nicki Kelly, a living legend in Bahamian journalism; Tribune senior journalist, Mr Mike Lothian; and all those British editors (Desmond Balmer) then employed by The Tribune.
“Mrs Carron nurtured me along the path of journalism to be the success that I am, and even when I was dashed against the shoals of life by the hurricanes of reality, she threw me a lifeline, helped me up, and got me going again.
“To a woman who could only be the hand of God in my life, Mrs Carron, from the bottom of my heart, I am most grateful and most thankful to you.
“So, if at all possible, I would like this trophy to hang on the walls of The Tribune’s newsroom, as a testament to excellence in journalism a la The Tribune.”

Life is so strange ........... This gentleman lives like a hermit all alone with his dog in Long Island. And hardly anyone (locally) knows what he has accomplished as a journalist ............ smh.
