TOURNAMENT title runs for two Bahamian players came in the Under-18 draw of the Goombay Splash Bowl at the National Tennis Centre yesterday.
Sydney Clarke was eliminated in the quarter-final of the Girls’ Main Draw while Isabel Donaldson’s team was eliminated in the semi-final of the Doubles Draw.
Clarke, the No.4 seed in the draw, fell in a tough, three-set match to No.6 seed Nicole Kiefer of the United States, 7-5, 3-6, 6-2.
Clarke’s path included an opening round win over over Shirley Liang of Canada and a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Grace O’Donnell of the United States.
It was a day of mixed results for Kiefer who turned around to pair with Donaldson in doubles play. They lost 6-3, 7-5 (10-6) to Imani Graham and Madison Kim of the United States.
In the opening round, they defeated the Bahamian pair of Abagail and Hannah-Joy Simms 6-3, 6-2. In the quarter-final, they advanced with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Bahamian Sierra Donaldson and Elan Mnatsakanov of the United States.
