TWO men were arraigned in a Magistrate's Court yesterday in connection with a major drug seizure of some $2m worth of suspected cocaine near the island of Bimini over the weekend.
Valdez Edgecombe, 38, of South Bimini, and 31-year-old Michael Roberts Jr, aka "Suge" of Alice Town, Bimini, stood before Magistrate Andrew Forbes faced with one count each of possession of dangerous drugs with intent to supply.
According to initial police reports, Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) officers intercepted a 26ft aqua and white Contender vessel in waters near Alice Town, Bimini shortly before 8am on Friday.
During a search, officers discovered two white coolers and two backpacks all containing packages of suspected cocaine, with an estimated street value of $2.3m.
The two suspects on board were subsequently taken into custody.
Both men pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The matter was subsequently adjourned to November 6 and 7 for trial. The two men were remanded to the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services (BDCS) until that time.
