AFTER winning her first round match in the qualifying round of the $80,000 Charlottesville, Virginia, Bahamian professional player Kerrie Cartwright got eliminated in the second round.
On Monday at the Boar’s Head Sports Club, Cartwright lost 6-4, 6-2 to American Whitney Osuigwe. Cartwright, however, won 6-3, 6-1 over American Ronit Yurovsky, one of the top 300 players in the world last year.
Cartwright is expected to team up with American Kariann Pierre-Louis as they play in the doubles later this week. Pierre-Louis lost in the first round of the qualifying round in singles in a 7-5, 6-1 decision to fellow American Sophie Chang.
Cartwright and Pierre-Louis won their first title in Heraklion, Greece in March.
