SYDNEY Clarke, playing in the girls’ final of the CO Williams Barbados Junior International Tennis Tournament in Barbados as the number three seed, lost to American No.2 seed Julia Andreach over the weekend.
Clarke advanced to the final by winning 6-3, 6-4 over Esterfania Gonzalez from Venezuela, while Andreach got by American Rachel Gailis 6-3, 6-1.
In her quarter-final match, Clarke won 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 over Sandra Alonso of Spain. She won her second round match 6-0, 6-4 over American Zeba Jamal and she got by American Payton Saca 6-1, 6-2 in the first round.
Also at the tournament, Donte Armbrister advanced to the second round of the boys’ singles where he lost 6-0, 6-3 to American No.7 seed Philip Jordan. Armbrister won his first round match 6-1, 6-0 over Curt Seifert from Barbados.
And Jacobi Bain got eliminated in the first round of the boys’ singles after he lost 6-2, 7-6 (1) to Blu Baker from Great Britain.
Armbrister and Bain teamed up in doubles where they got ousted in the first round, losing 7-5, 6-1 to the team of Romani Mayers from Barbados and Andy Zhu from Canada.
Clarke, teaming up with Gabrielle Leslie of Barbados as the No.4 seed, won their first round doubles in the girls’ division with a 7-5, 6-4 decision over Karin Hamilton and Genevieve Quenville of Canada.
But Clarke and Leslie lost out in the second round to the team of Sandra Alonso of Spain and Estefania Gonzalez of Venezuela. The final score was 6-2, 4-6 (10-3).
