AFTER a successful launch in Nassau, the Ministry of Labour will kick off the "Labour on the Blocks" initiative in Freeport to bring job seekers and employers together on Grand Bahama.
The event is scheduled for Saturday, February 17, at the Susan J Wallace Park at Columbus Drive and Nansen Avenue between 11am to 4pm.
Senator Dion Foulkes, minister of labour, and senior executives from the Department of Labour will be there, and persons seeking employment are asked to attend and register with the department's database.
They should bring their NIB cards and a valid government-issued ID such as a passport or voter's card.
To date, there have been two successful "Labour on the Blocks" events held in New Providence, and the Ministry of Labour was pleased with the turnout.
The department is also expecting large numbers of persons to attend the event in Grand Bahama.
Participation
Mr Foulkes was pleased with the level of participation from the private sector and said businesses and industries are welcome to come out and be a part of the event.
He said many participating employers had hired job seekers on the spot in New Providence. The new initiative, he said, is providing hope and opportunity for those looking for work.
The Ministry of Labour plans to hold monthly "Labour on the Blocks" events in the other Family Island communities.
"Economic growth and job creation remain one of the leading priorities of the government, and the 'Labour on the Blocks' is successfully answering the needs of job seekers as well as employers in effectively connecting eligible candidates with the right jobs," according to a statement from the ministry.
The Department of Labour is encouraging all job seekers in the Bahamas or abroad, and employers with vacancies to register within its recruitment database: jobseekers.bahamas.gov.bs
