Police officers told: Turn your hearts to God

By Vanessa C Smith

The Royal Bahamas Police Force Exuma branch recently held their annual church service under the theme "God Is King, We are Dependent Upon Him".

The service was held at Mt Olive Union Baptist Church in Hartswell, Exuma. It was a joint effort between the Royal Bahamas Defence Force, the Department of Correctional Services, Bahamas Customs and Immigration, Road Traffic and the Airport Authority.

Superintendent Bradley Sands and his officers said they were delighted to be graced with the presence of Commissioner of Police Anthony James Ferguson, Assistant Commissioner of Family Islands Ismella Davis-Delancy and Assistant Commissioner of Operational Support Kendall Strachan.

The Rev Dr John Rolle delivered the sermon and commented that Exuma can boast that six assistant commissioners and now Commissioner Ferguson all hail from the island.

Dr Rolle said that the officers should be commended for taking time to seek God's guidance and thank Him for His continuous protection.

Police officers must turn their hearts toward God as they combat crime, he said. Dr Rolle encouraged the officers to discharge their duties without compromise and to remain focused. He told them to remember that God is king and their constant help: Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever. Always go to God who is your source. You will face fiery trials as you seek to serve, he said.

Police officers, he said, must work hand in hand with the citizens of the Bahamas to guard and protect our heritage.

"We are grateful that crime is almost nonexistent in Exuma," said Dr Rolle. He added that the officers stationed in Exuma work diligently and effectively to guard the airport, the sea ports, the streets, and the Exuma Cays.

Father Ethan Ferguson of St Andrew's Anglican Parish offered the intercessory prayer for the Exuma officers and the entire Royal Bahamas Police Force.
