Shockersget 94-88 win over Rockets in NPBA

THE NPBA hosted its final double header before the league took a break from action as attention shifts to the FIBA World Cup Qualifiers and the Hugh Campbell Invitational.

The JD's Seafood Shockers (Division I) and the Aliv Bucket Team (Division II) took wins into the break Tuesday night at the DW Davis Gymnasium.

The Shockers placed five players in double figures in a 94-88 win over the Rockets, led by Shakwon Lewis' double double - 19 points and 11 rebounds.

William Rigby finished with 19 points and eight rebounds, Dominiqueco Dean finished with 12 points and a team high 10 rebounds, while Lamont Armaly and Jackson Dalmond both finished with 11 points.

Lerecus Armbrister led a shorthanded Rockets with 24 points, Tomeko Moxey scored 20, Selvyn McKenzie added 14 while Barry Carter and Lyndrick Storr each finished with 10.

The Shockers bench outscored the Rockets bench 33-12, and also held advantages in points in the paint (10) and second chance points (six).

The Shockers led 23-16 at the end of the first, but their lead was cut to just three by the Rockets on a pair of Demitri Mackey free throws to make the score 32-29.

An 8-0 run for the Shockers would push the lead to double figures for the first time on a Dean jumper for a 40-29 lead.

The Rockets led by double digits throughout the third but the Rockets made a run in the fourth. Trailing 77-67 with 5:32 left to play, the Rockets came within two (83-81) on a pair of Armbrister free throws with just over three minutes left to play.

Storr's three pointer moments later brought the Rockets within one (87-86) with 1:58 left but the Shockers would close the game on a 7-1 run.

In Division II, the Bucket Team scored a 91-78 win over the Caro Construction Resistance.

Dylan Musgrove scored a game high 33 points to lead the Bucket Team while Rashad Ingraham (11 points, 12 rebounds) and Akeil Bullard (18 points, 14 rebounds) both had double doubles.

James Rolle and Chauncey Cooper both scored nine while Kieran Mortimer had eight points and nine rebounds.

Qyemah Gibson led the Resistance with 32 points and nine rebounds, Kamal Murphy scored 19 and Marcian Higgins added 11.

After four lead changes, Aliv ended the first quarter on a 6-0 run to tie the game at 21 headed into the second.

The Bucket team lead grew to as much as eight at one point, but they took a 42-40 lead into the half. Tied at 44 at the 9:19 mark in the third, a 22-9 lead broke the game wide open for good.

The Bucket Team took a 73-55 lead into the fourth en route to the win.
