THE Ministry of Labour will next Monday launch several initiatives designed to reduce unemployment by better matching workers with available jobs.

An Employer's Job Fair will be held at the Department of Labour's Rosetta Street Office, in the City Corporate Center Building, from 10-2pm.

The Job Fair will showcase the recently-updated, web-based PCRecruiter Software System to employers, strengthening the Department's National Skills Bank. The job fair is intended to provide employers with access to the resumes of eligible Bahamian job seekers, and provide opportunities for employers to upload job vacancies into the online portal.

Dion Foulkes, minister of labour, will also on Monday launch a recruitment initiative called 'Labour on the Blocks'.

This will start on January 13 with a registration drive on the Sarah Ingraham Park, Hospital Lane and Cambridge street, in the Bain and Grants Town community. Registration is expected to be held between 11am to 3pm.

Mr Foulkes described 'Labour on the Blocks' as an opportunity for the Department of Labour's Public Employment Services (PES) unit teams to go out and meet individuals in their communities. It is targeting job seekers who may have given up on finding employment, or not understand the avenues they should take to secure work.

Labour Department personnel will go into various communities, beginning with Bain and Grants Town, to register them on the PCRecruiter database in an effort to match them with potential job opportunities. Businesses in these areas may also join the initiative.

On January, 20, a Construction Job Fair, focused on job seekers and employers in the construction industry, is scheduled for the Kendal G. L. Isaacs Gymnasium from 12-4pm.
