BAHAMAS female national champion Cynthia Rahming ended up in an impressive 7th place at the Scottish Judo Open this past weekend.
Rahming, competing in the under 57 kilogram division, finished the day with two wins and two losses. She defeated Britain’s top cadet, Leah Grosvenor, by Ippon (knock out).
Grosvernor was the winner of the Commonwealth Youth Games Championship held here in New Providence last summer.
Rahming also defeated Charlotte Beirne of England by Ippon.
Rahming, however, lost to eventual silver medallist Kiera Bateman by Ippon and also lost to Chloe Robyns-Landricombe, winner of the Welsh Open, on points after going the distance.
Rahming was coached by three-time Olympic medallist Amarilis Savon.
“This was an assessment tournament for her,” said D’Arcy Rahming Jr, High Performance Director of the Bahamas Judo Federation. “We are pleased with her overall performance and in reviewing the matches we know the areas needed for improvement.”
The Scottish Open is a tournament just below the Olympic qualifiers. The country opens would include persons vying to be members of their national teams and to gain the experience necessary to unseat their country champions. Great Britain is one of the countries that medal at the Olympics so the standard is very high.
