PRIME Minister Dr Hubert Minnis left the country yesterday for visits to Austin and Houston, Texas.
According to a statement from the Cabinet Office, Dr Minnis led a delegation to the United States consisting of Minister of Foreign Affairs Darren Henfield, Minister of State for Grand Bahama Kwasi Thompson, Senior Policy Advisor Joshua Sears, non-resident Ambassador-designate for Central America Cornelius Smith, photographer Yontalay Bowe and aide Kirk Bastian.
In Texas, Dr Minnis will be joined by Bahamas Ambassador to the US Sidney Collie, Miami Consul General Linda Mackey and Honorary Consul to Houston Lynden Rose.
The objectives of the visit are to develop a relationship with the governor of Texas and Dr Minnis “with the expressed purpose of identifying foreign investment and business opportunities that would benefit The Bahamas,” the Cabinet Office said.
“Austin is now known as Silicon Hills because of the many tech companies that call Austin home.”
It is hoped contact will be made with some of these companies – such as Facebook, Google, Dell, HP – to see if there is in interest in them investing in the Bahamas.
The trip is also organised so that the delegation can interact with Bahamians living in Texas.
Meetings will be held with business executives, financial and investment advisors, Chamber of Commerce leaders and others, the statement said.
Dr Minnis will return to The Bahamas on Wednesday.

Sad how we keep repeating the same old pitch and woo over and over, but never entice any international industry to establish themselves here. Wonder if they get the "build it and they will come" principal?
