I supported the legalisation of numbers. I actually think all gambling should be legal for Bahamians. I do not think there should be one standard for foreigners and another for Bahamians when it comes to this.
What I do not support is the widespread proliferation of number houses, however.
There must be hundreds of them in New Providence. They are everywhere. They appear to have surpassed churches and bars in number. And that is hard to do in the Bahamas.
How many gambling houses do we need in New Providence? With the large number we have, people are being lured excessively. That should not be.
There is no need for such a small place to have so many gambling houses. Twenty in New Providence would be more than sufficient.
The government has the power to regulate. It needs to drastically cut down the number of numbers houses. Those who want to gamble could find their way to the ones that remain open.
We do not need one on every corner. We do not need so many of them in residential areas causing traffic and noise when we are trying to sleep.
We can do better than this. I hope the government acts.

Isn't it ironic that after supporting the legalization of numbers the writer now sees the effects of the greed that drives it on the national life, but while seeing people being lured excessively, she still thinks all Bahamians should be able to gamble?
Th author also supports the decriminalization of marijuana. Should that happen, I would anticipate seeing another such letter!
