I WISH to give my feelings about that latest warning/advisory coming from the US State Dept by way of the US Embassy here in Nassau.
Listening to the response coming from the honourable Minister for Tourism about this warning, I recalled that the honourable Minster did mentioned to some effect that The Bahamas (the Police) need to prove/show that area - Arawak Cay Fish fry sector and elsewhere is safe, and, sir, that’s it!
Remember, the tourist industry is the Bahamas #1 means of survival; so I hasten to suggest all one need to do is bring the security and protection of those areas, and The Bahamas in general to the level which the US State Dept can accept where its citizens will be safe. It’s simple. Then maybe all this will eventually go away.

This seems to be an expansion of the warning from late 2016. It seems to be a public warning to the local police that safety is still not resolved, just as much as it is a warning to US State Dept employees. . Tourism is about an experience. People like to party, to buy stuff, to go out on the water, or to have some positive experience in a new place. So much of that is tied to feelings and perception. . The standard fix around the world is to claim extra efforts are being taken, increase police presence, especially on the entrance and exit points to money-making areas. That gives people a warm and fuzzy feeling so they can go along and spend money without worrying as much.
