The true fashionista understands that is it the little things that make the big picture complete. An outfit can be as fabulous as it wants to be, but it’s the accessories that take your ensemble to the next level of style.
Someone who understands this fundamental rule is Abaco’s Christa Curry, a 23-year-old University of the Bahamas who is in the process of turning a high school hobby into her dream business.
Today, with close to 2,000 social media followers, Christa’s Bowetic line of accessories is steadily making a name for itself.
Speaking with Tribune Woman, Christa described her bow-making business as an avenue to let her imagination run wild.
Bowetic products, mainly available in Abaco and New Providence, include items such as fascinators, hair clips and combs, christening hairpieces, flower bands, tutu sets, hair bows, head bands, bow tie sets, corsages, bouquets, and pacifier clips.
“I love the way there is a freedom in the fashion field that allows individuals to truly express themselves through colours and shapes, for example. And in the fashion field I am interested in the accessory aspect. I love dealing with the final pieces that will bring the entire idea together,” said Christa.
Reflecting on how she got started with this venture, Christa said she still remembers the day she received two hair bows as a gift from a friend. They quickly became her favourite accessories, but after much use they started to show signs of wear and tear. Not giving up on her beloved bows, Christa decided to take them apart and recreate them with new materials.
“This (inspired) the creative side in me, and thus Bowetic was created. My goal through Bowetic is to simply help persons embrace their own unique side through accessorising. Whether it be for a funeral, wedding, school, or even a photo shoot, your accessories should be a representation of who you are,” said Christa.
Christa said her parents are her role models, and watching them both show strength in times of tribulation has been very inspirational. She said parents have been her main support system from day one and have shown nothing but love and encouragement as it relates to entrepreneurial goals.
“I am truly thankful for not only them but my entire family for always being such a great support and for just being the great people they are. It is my dream to launch Bowetic in stores here in the Bahamas and eventually worldwide. The business itself is still in its infant stages in terms of becoming more known publicly, but I would say it receives good feedback from clients,” said Christa.
As she prepares to celebrate a 24th birthday next month, Christa said her goals going forward include boosting her clientele by at least 20 per cent by the end of the year. She also plans to launch Bowetic’s official website and make expo appearances in Nassau.
Currently, Bowetic products ship to all Family Islands and the US.
