EDITOR, The Tribune.
PLP Member of Parliament Picewell Forbes is absolutely correct that Bahamas Power & Light should keep a list of privileged customers whose electricity supply should never be disconnected.
Where I disagree with him is over who should be on that list.
I completely reject his list and propose my own. How about this list, Mr. Forbes?
The Princess Margaret Hospital
The Rassin Hospital
Sandilands Rehabilitation Centre
The Persis Rogers Home for Senior Citizens
The Ranfurly Home for Children
Dialysis and Cancer Treatment Centres
Households where disconnection would be detrimental to the health of a family member provided it is certified by a health professional and prior payment arrangements are made.
Mr. Forbes is at liberty to add to this list provided he gets the humanitarian gist of the exercise.
It shows that PLP leader Philip “Brave” Davis has his work cut out for him if he wants to change the “all for me baby” sense of privilege and entitlement that permeates his party.
Mr. Forbes should instead advocate for Parliament to make it easy for all of us to purchase and install solar panels which can produce all the energy to run our home and even produce a surplus that we could sell back to BPL.
Until then he should study the meaning of egalitarianism.
