IN producing his season's best performance in the men's high jump on Monday night in Hungary, Donald Thomas said he only expects to jump higher as the season progresses.

"I thank God for the many blessings and for leading me this far," he said. "Competition was really stiff and the jumpers were on their A game. I'm satisfied with the outcome and will continue to fight at a high level."

Coming off his victory at the Bahamas Association of Athletic Associations' Nationals last month at the Thomas A Robinson Track and Field Stadium, Thomas soared 2.32 metres or 7-feet, 7 ¼-inches for fourth place at the Gyulai Memorial ahead of fellow Bahamian Trevor Barry, who was fifth.

The event saw Olympic and world champion Mutaz Essa Barshim of Qatar take the victory with 2.40m (7-10 ½).

Thomas, the 33-year-old 2007 world champion, credited his performance in Hungary to his stay at the Atlantis resort on Paradise Island as his incentive. "Spending time at home last week and staying at the Atlantis resort was a major factor in my performance in Hungary," he stated.

"I was able to relax, refresh my mind and press the reset button while training for the long road ahead.

"Taking in the sharks, water slides, good food and the beach for a couple days really rejuvenated me. The Bahamas is truly paradise."

Thomas now prepares for his next meet when he will compete in the Lausanne Diamond League meeting today.

Meanwhile, Shaunae Miller-Uibo, who won the women's 400m in lowering her meet record from 49.86 a year ago to 49.53, said she too was pleased with her performance.

"I just give God all the thanks and praise for the victory and to come out injury free," she stated. "Overall, the race felt great. This was my second 400 metres for the season and to be so consistent with 49.5 is a great sign for me."

Miller-Uibo, the 24-year-old 2016 Olympic gold medallist, will be back in action when she competes in the 200m at the Rabat Diamond League on July 13. Like the one-lap race, Miller-Uibo is also undefeated in the half-lap race.
