FOLLOWING day two of the Caribbean Amateur Junior Golf Championships, the Bahamas is currently fifth in the standings and the Under-15 girls continue to lead the team with the top performances in their respective divisions.

Ashley Michel is the top performer for the nine-member team thus far in the event at the Caymanas Golf and Country Club in Caymanas Estate, Jamaica.

She shot an 82 (+10) yesterday for an overall score of 161 (+17). She closed out the day with birdies on the 14th and 18th holes to solidify sole possession of third place in the 12-golfer field.

Also in the division, Sophie Anand is tied for fourth with a score of 165 (+21). She shot an 86 (+14) on day two, highlighted by a birdie on 15. Both shot an opening round 79, seven shots over par.

Kim Yae Eun of the Dominican Republic leads the division at 157 (+7) and Emily Odwn of Barbados is second at 160 (+12).

In the 18 field boys U-18 division, team captain Cameron Riley remains tied for eighth. Riley lowered his score by four strokes from day one with a second round 77 (+5). He shot an 81 (+9) in round one for a total score of 158. Also in the division, Xavier Robinson is ranked 15th with rounds of 86 (+14) and 90 (+18) for a total score of 176. In the U-18 girls, Haylie Tunquest fell two spots after a second round 87 (+15). Turnquest shot an opening round 82, (+10) and is now sixth with a total score of 169 (+25).

Saketh Hedge, playing in the Boys' U-15 division, is tied at No.10 overall with a total score of 163 (+19). In round two he shot 84 (+12) following an opening round 79, (+7).

Dominic Greiveis is ranked No. 14 in the division with a total score of 173 (+29). In round two he shot 89 (+17) following an 84 (+12).

In the Boys' U-13, Matthew Deveaux is in 15th place, but improved 11 strokes from an opening round 107 (+35). He shot 96 (+24) yesterday for a total score of 203 (+59).

In the Girls' U-13, Tynesha Tynes shot 102 (+30) after a day one performance of 95 (+23) and is tied for 10th with a score of 197 (+53). The Bahamian golfers will continue to face-off against their Caribbean counterparts from the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, Barbados, the United States Virgin Islands (USVI) and the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) on the 18-hole championships course. The tournament concludes on July 7.

In 2017, Team Bahamas produced a pair of top three finishers against elite junior golf talent in the region at the 30th edition of the event, hosted at the St Andrews Golf Club in Maraval, Trinidad and Tobago.

Puerto Rico led the field from start to finish and claimed their 10th consecutive title.The best finishes for the Bahamas came from Turnquest and Anand as they both finished second in their respective divisions.
