This Saturday, the community known as the Valley will come alive when the St George's Anglican Church holds its annual Thrill of the Grill and Parish Fair.

"Our church fair is the major fundraising event which assists with the operating expenses of our church and its ministry to our members and the wider community," said Adrian Archer, the church's parish administrator. "Monies raised are used to fund our various ministries, including our vital ministries to the sick and shut-in, and our ministry to the Valley community and beyond."

"This year we have more than 15 booths, including food stalls, games for adults and children and our parish raffle, all of which we know will be great to patronise," said Sandra Knowles, chairman of the 2018 fair.

"Of course, the cornerstone of the fair is our steak-out, being prepared by our award-winning ACM team which begins at 12noon," said Burton Conyers, president of St George's Anglican Church Men. "Our steak recipe has won the the Father Anthon Roberts Grill Competition a number of times and we intend to show our patrons why on the day of our own event."

Ms Knowles added: "St George's is known to produce some of the best local foods around. This year we will have two conch fritter stalls which will be as outstanding as in former years, but we will also have a home cookery stall, chicken in da bag, as well as an All Things Curry stall and locally made ice-cream of various flavours."

"Of course we can't do without our cakes and pastries at an occasion such as this, so this year we intend to make this stall even bigger and better," said Betty Smith, president of the church's Guild to Help the Sick and Needy. "Our guild goes all out to provide cakes, pastries, pies and tarts of every description and we expect no less this year."

As every year, the event will also have games of chance, including bingo, white elephant, hoop-la and a punch board where a number of great prizes will be available.

"And finally, the evening ends with a bang when members of the word famous Valley Boys hold their annual rush-out at 6pm," said Mr Archer.

"Even more important that the funds we hope to raise, is the opportunity to fellowship with each and to get to know each other better," said Father Scott Brennen, priest-in-charge of the parish.
