Beautiful piano music filled St Andrew's Presbyterian Kirk on Sunday afternoon, July 1, as students of Wilfred Butler performed and exhibited poise, style and grace before a large audience of parents, friends and well-wishers. Students performed on a grand piano from grade initial to grade 8.

Alma Adams, mistress of ceremonies, encouraged parents to continue to send their children to music lessons as this will assist in their overall development and music will take them around the world. Mrs Adams said she is looking forward to another recital later this year. She thanked Mr Butler and his wife for their work with the children.

Mr Butler told those in attendance that he was very proud of each student's performance and he thanked them for going the extra mile to make him, their parents and themselves proud. He said they practiced repeatedly and it showed in their playing. He advised them to stay focused and they will reach the top. He was equally as proud to announce that all students who sat the recent Trinity College of Music, London practical examinations were all successful. Mr Butler said it made him proud to teach students who show such great promise.

Janette Johnson-Smith, secretary and local representative of Trinity College of Music, London, addressed the audience and assisted Mr Butler with handing out music certificates to the students who attained merit and distinction in the recent examinations. She encouraged the students to strive to be the best as we are competing on the world stage.

The Trinity College of Music is an examinations board based in London, England, which offers graded and diploma qualifications across a range of disciplines in the performing arts and English language learning and teaching in over 70 countries worldwide. It was founded in 1877.

Practical examinations are held in Nassau twice a year, in April/May and in December, and theory examinations are held in May and November of each year.

Mrs Johnson-Smith congratulated Mr Butler for organising the music recital at the Kirk and for preparing his students in a most professional manner.

Mr Butler and Mrs Johnson-Smith thanked the St Andrew's Presbyterian Church for their support and assistance over the years in providing facilities for the examinations as well as the recital.
