Golfers swing for a good cause with AIDS Foundation

THE Bahamas AIDS Foundation is hosting its first Red Tee Charity Golf Tournament to benefit an outreach programme for adolescents infected and affected by HIV/AIDS.

The event takes place this Thursday at the Royal Blue Golf Course at Baha Mar beginning at 12noon.

This event will be a significant fundraiser for the Foundation, contributing significantly to its ongoing mission to support the fight against HIV/AIDS in the community. Proceeds will also assist with funding for the Foundation's outreach programme for children and the construction of a multipurpose building to accommodate its activities and programmes, and also to support the purchase of special medicines needed by some Bahamians.

President of the Bahamas AIDS Foundation Lady Camille Barnett said: "All proceeds from the tournament will go toward the Bahamas AIDS Foundation, including our outreach programme for adolescents infected and affected by HIV and AIDS."

The tournament is open to both local and international players, and the format will follow a two-man scramble. The cost of the event is $225 per golfer.

Hole-in-one prizes include a Mercedes-Benz, a Vespa motorcycle, a jet-ski and a golf cart. With the Foundation turning 26-years-old this year, a special prize will be awarded to the team that places 26th. The Bahamas Golf Federation (BGF) fully supports this event and expects local golfers to come out and support the worthy cause.

Those interested in participating can register for the event by calling the Bahamas AIDS Foundation at 325-9326/7 or by sending an e-mail to aidsfoundationbahamas@yahoo.com or redteecharitygolftournament@gmail.com.

The Zonta Club of Nassau established the AIDS Foundation of the Bahamas in 1992. It is a non-profit, non-government organisation dedicated to the fight against HIV/AIDS both at home and abroad.
