MANGOES and Plantains from Haiti - wow what a big deal!
I really wonder listening to the commentary of our ministers whether they live in a world of reality or a child as the smallest of issue becomes a mega deal and the mega deal means in reality absolutely nothing.
So these mangoes and plantains.
Agriculture knows precisely how much is imported now through Miami so they have an indication if it is in its wildest of dreams feasible to establish a Ro-Ro container ship service between Haiti and Nassau (certainly Minister Symonette through his Sea Link can give them an estimate instantly).
So lets speculate - one container load of mangoes in season and one container load of plantains, maybe per week - can you operate a shipping service with just that and what are we going to send back to Haiti to pay for the return of the vessel? Mango season, Bahamian ones lie at Potters Cay rotting, dah?
Get rid of the US Middle Man - our Produce Importers buy direct - ship with Tropical Shipping to Miami who will bring the one or two containers to Nassau.
Is this a mega deal to merit all the comment from the Prime Minister and the. Minister of Agriculture as if without them we will not starve?
I am wondering as this deal was already established by Christie & Co was it because of the shipping aspect it did not go forward? Totally unfeasible.

Yes it is a mega deal. They are visiting their constituents and future constituents and assuring them native delicacies will be available at low cost upon arrival.
Who could ask for any thing more?
