A MAN is dead after a traffic accident in New Providence on Friday.
According to police, shortly after 9pm a traffic accident occurred at Gibbs Corner and West Avenue involving a Nissan Teana and a white Ford F-150 truck. Two male passengers who were on the back of the truck were ejected and taken to hospital with serious injuries.
One of the men was pronounced dead a short time later.
Police said the drivers of both vehicles remained at the scene and are assisting police with the investigation.
The incident marked the 16th traffic fatality for the year.
Last week Assistant Commissioner of Operational Support Kendall Strachan, in the wake of recent traffic fatalities, pleaded with the public to exercise good road safety habits.
He said: “We are appealing to every one of you, drivers and pedestrians, to pay attention. And while we are also appealing, we constantly remind you of the importance of ensuring that you, firstly, and secondly the vehicle that you are driving, are appropriate for the streets.”
He called for drivers to hold valid licences and all vehicles to be properly licenced, registered, and insured.
He advised pedestrians to wear bright clothing, stay on the sidewalk, and exercise in well-lit areas.
