CHRIST the King Anglican Church recently wrapped up its month-long celebrations that recognised and inspired many young people in the community.
Youth Month celebrations and activities were held under the theme “Ablaze” taken from Revelation 3:20.
Youth Director Odia Richardson said the church is always seeking to highlight young people.
“We wanted to find a way that the young people in our parish would be featured doing the things they enjoy as well as celebrate their accomplishments,” she said.
“This being our second year observing youth month, we added a few new ideas that came directly from the youth. We’re always trying to emphasise the importance of serving others and doing outreach to other youth, hence the idea came about to partner with the Children’s Emergency Hostel.”
The church’s Christian Youth Movement hosted 20 children in the parish hall for an evening of fun and games followed by dinner.
As part of the celebrations, the church also held its first youth conference that ministered to all in attendance and inspired them to walk in a close relationship with God.
The guest speaker for the conference was Pastor Rosmery Bethel of Epic Church, who shared her life’s story, growing up in the Catholic faith and never truly having a real relationship with Christ.
“She emphasised how even the very young need to be rooted and grounded in the things of God because the enemy doesn’t wait until they get older. The evening ended with prayers and ministry to the youth,” said Ms Richardson.
A special breakfast was held for the youth leaders which gave them the opportunity to fellowship with one another.
“We returned to the Salvation Army once again to assist with their ‘Love Luncheon’ which they hold every year as their outreach to the community during Valentines,” she said.
During the month, a youth awards banquet was held and the accomplishments of 19 youngsters were honoured. Youth leaders were given the task of nominating persons from within their organisations and submitting profiles.
Celebrations came to a climax last Sunday when parishioners joined the young believers by wearing T-shirts with the word “Ablaze” printed on them. The guest speaker for this service was Ryan Rolle.
