POLICE yesterday denied reports spread on social media which erroneously claimed a man found dead outside of a Wulff Road bar Monday was murdered.
Police called social media reports of the claim “misinformation”.
Assistant Superintendent Shanta Knowles told The Tribune the deceased was a patron of the establishment who simply “died unexpectedly” as he left the building.
Shortly after the patron was declared dead at the scene, pictures and reports of the incident were widely circulated on social media.
Those reports suggested he was killed just outside of the establishment.
Responding to those claims yesterday, Supt Knowles said while the death was unfortunate, the circumstances surrounding the discovery needed to be corrected urgently.
She said: “No. It was not a murder. He was someone who was at the bar, having a drink. When he was done, he exited the bar and he died. He collapsed to the ground and he died.”
Police continue to urge members of the public to always seek information from the police and trusted news agencies so as to avoid the spread and circulation of misinformation.
