POSTSEASON

THE Breezes High Flyers and the Rockets took the initial lead in their respective New Providence Basketball Association’s best-of-five semifinal playoff series on Wednesday night at the AF Adderley Gymnasium.

In the division II opener, the High Flyers knocked of the Triple K Stampers 96-90, while the Rockets got by the University of the Bahamas Mingoes 110-93 in their division one feature contest.

Saturday

7pm - Triple K Stampers vs Breezes High Flyers, division II game two.

8:30 pm University of the Bahamas vs Rockets, division one game two.

FINANCIAL

BOWLING LEAGUE

Kevin B Williams of the Strike Force was the top scorer in the Financial Bowling League competition on Wednesday night at Mario’s Bowling and Family Entertainment Centre.

Williams finished with a 226-high game and a 629-high three game set. Sonith Lockhart of the Rubis Oil Stars was the runner-up with a 210-second high game and a 578-second high set.

Joy Lockhart of the BTC Night Hawks was the ladies’ most valuable player with a 221-high game and a 564 high three game series. Lockhart was followed by Tara Culmer of the Moonlight Strikers with a 196-second high game and a 520-second high set.

Team scores for the evening were as follows:

Strike Force 2, Rubis Oil Stars 1; BTC Night Hawks 2, Best Deal Kirki Bar 1; Moonlight Strikers 2, Deloitte & Touche 1; ZNS Hill Thrillers 3, Leno Corporate Services 0.

RUGBY

HEINEKEN CUP

GAME IN GB

The Bahamas Rugby Union will play their final game in the Heineken Cup season on Saturday at the Freeport Rugby Club in Grand Bahama when Freeport will play Baillou at 2pm.

The BRU has also revealed that the scheduled 3pm game between the Nassau Renegades and Brown University has been cancelled as the team is unable to travel to the Bahamas. The BRU has also announced that they will commence their playoffs on Saturday, April 7 after the Easter holiday weekend.

CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Bahamas Association of Independent Secondary Schools’ kicked of their championship series on Wednesday at the Roscow Davies Developmental Center at the Baillou Hills Sporting Complex with two of the four champions decided.

Junior Girls

Queens College def. St. Augustine’s College: K’Lizz Ellis struck the winning goal late into the extra period to lift the Comets over arch rivals Big Red Machine and took the trophy back to Village Road. The game was very tight after SAC equalized on a penalty in the first half.

Senior Boys

St Andrew’s def. Lyford Cay: The Hurricanes used their experience and the knowledge of veteran coach Peter Wilson, to top the Dragons senior boys in penalty kicks after the extra period could not produce a 5-4 winner.

The Dragons in their first season made a good showing in the game and will be back to contest next season.

The junior boys between Queen’s College Comets vs Lyford Cay Dragons and the senior girls between Queens’ College Comets and Aquinas Aces were played on Thursday.

BTVI FUN

RUN/WALK

For the fourth consecutive year, The Bahamas Technical and Vocational Institute (BTVI) is seeking to help staff, faculty, students and the general public get in shape by participating in its annual Fun Run Walk this Saturday, March 24.

Each year, BTVI has approximately 100 participants and is encouraging the public to get involved, making steps to a healthier lifestyle.

The opportunity to register in the 2018 BTVI Fun Run Walk is still available by calling 502-6300 /21.
