HAVING participants leave its resort feeling energised, rejuvenated and with a new approach to their health was the goal Breezes Bahamas Resort & Spa said it accomplished after hosting its first ever Wellness Retreat.

The resort on Cable Beach was transformed into a wellness centre filled with exercise activities, culinary workshops, healthy behaviour challenges and more.

In conjunction with the Caribbean Tourism Organisation naming 2018 “The Year of Wellness and Rejuvenation”. Breezes Bahamas teamed up with Crunch Fitness and Dr Rachel Goldman from New York City to host its first on-site Wellness Week from April 23 to 27.

The five days at the resort featured discussions about healthy lifestyle choices, beach yoga, Caribbean rhythms dancing and Zumba classes, plus more adventurous options like flying Pilates and trapeze conditioning.

All classes were taught by licenced instructors and varied in level of difficulty. A “healthy eating” break featuring exotic fruits and nutritious snacks followed the sessions.

“The ambiance of rejuvenation was felt throughout the resort with smoothie stations available in the Banana Boat Restaurant, chilled eucalyptus towels in the lobby and mini massages provided by the resort’s spa, Blue Mahoe. The Crunch Fitness team kept guests on the move with the exciting and contagious Bahama Boogie classes on the pool deck. Participants left the resort feeling energised and rejuvenated…goal accomplished,” said Hedda Smith, sales manager at the resort.

Executive Chef Nigel Clarke and Dr Rachel Goldman, a licenced psychologist specialising in health and wellness, conducted healthy cooking demonstrations, highlighting options like conch spaghetti zoodles, lettuce wraps and cauliflower fried rice, which, according to organisers, was “the talk of the week.”

“Guests took part in discussions on healthy lifestyle choices, attended seminars on mind-body connection, meditation and mindfulness and enjoyed sunset salutations on the beach,” said Ms Smith.
