PHILIPPA Arnett-Willie said she could not have signed any Memorandum of Articles on behalf of the Bahamas Association of Athletic Associations in the month of August, 2012 because she was not a member.
Arnett-Willie, a former sprinter who served as an assistant treasurer of the BAAA, was listed as one of the two signatories, along with Mike Sands, to a Memorandum of Articles that enabled the association to be incorporated as a company in the Registrar General’s Department.
The document was brought to light at a special call meeting on Monday, November 12 at the Thomas A Robinson Stadium just before the BAAA goes to the polls to elect a new administration on Saturday. “At that time on August, 2012, I would have been a member, nominated for assistant treasurer of the BAAA on the team of Iram Lewis,” she disclosed.
“I would have won my position in November, 2012, so there is no way possible that I would have signed the Memorandum of Articles that was circulated and now repealed by my understanding by the BAAA.”
Arnett-Willie said there’s no way in her profession in an industry that deals with the drafting and signing of Memorandum of Articles, the document would have been signed inconsistently throughout and filed on inconsistent dates.
“Normally, the document of Memorandum of Articles is signed on the same date. It could be notarised on a different date, but normally it’s filed on the same date, so there’s no way Philippa Arnett-Willie could have signed that document.
“I’m not speaking to anyone’s character, but I am speaking to mine. I, Phillippa Arnett-Willie did not sign any Memorandum of Articles with Mike Sands in August 2012.”
Arnett-Willie, who will be on the committee headed by acting Chief Executive Officer Mabeline Miller, said she hopes that the best person wins the elections when it is contested on Saturday. She said she just wishes she knew where the elections will be held.
