This National Heroes Day all roads will lead to the historic village of Adelaide where the Anglican Church Men of St James Parish will be hosting their 13th Annual Father R F Anthony Roberts' King of the Grill Fest and Competition. The event will be held from 12noon until 6pm this coming Monday on the church's grounds. The day will end with a Junkanoo rush-out.
The ACM of Saint James in its commitment to national development and community outreach has held this major fundraiser every year since 2005. One of the main purposes of the event is fundraising. Through this initiative the ACM hopes to positively impact the Adelaide community and surrounding areas. Money raised at the Grill Fest will be utilised in its ongoing programme to continue to assist the community members, the church environment and a number of other charitable organisations. The event also aims to provide a venue for fellowship and fun. It enables various branches of the ACM and many other people to come together for a good time.
The highlight of the day will be the cooking competition between the various ACM branches in New Providence. In order to ensure fairness and that a very high standard is maintained, Chef Addimae Farrington of the University of the Bahamas' Hotel Training Division and three certified chefs will judge the competition. The competition will begin at 3pm sharp and will end at 4.30 pm. Each team will be judged by a point system as follows:
• Punctuality - 10 points
• Presentation - 10 points
• Taste, flavour, texture - 0-15 points
• Ingredient compatibility - 0-15 points
The current champion is the St Agnes ACM who last year defeated Holy Trinity.
The event is named in honour of Father R F Anthony Roberts, former assistant priest at St James. It was Father Roberts' vision to invite the different branches of the ACM to come together for a cooking competition to see who was the best. Before this could be realised, Father Roberts passed away. The ACM of St James, under the leadership of Julius Cox, took up the challenge and felt that it was only fitting that competition be named in his honour.
