SPRINTER Adrian Curry finished 11th overall in the 100 metres after the completion of stage two yesterday at the Youth Olympics.
He posted an aggregate time of 21.67 seconds compiled in both stages as Team Bahamas continued competition in track and field at the third edition of the games in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Curry finished fourth in heat four of stage two yesterday in 10.64.
Mahdi Rezaei of Iran was first in 10.57, followed by Mateo Vargas of Paraguay in 10.61 and Lucas Rodrigues da Silva in 10.62.
In Friday’s stage one, Curry finished third in heat five in a time of 11.03 behind Fabian Olbert of Germany in 10.93 and Shelton Keyrine St Rose of St Lucia in 11.01.
Luke Davids of South Africa won the gold after he took first place in both stages in 10.56 and 10.15 respectively.
Alaba Akintola of Nigeria was second after a pair of second place finishes and Seiryo Ikeda of Japan won bronze.
Today, Matthew Thompson will be the final competitor for Team Bahamas in the 400m hurdles. He is slated to run in the second stage in heat one at 2:40pm local time.
Thompson finished seventh in heat two of stage one in 55.43.
The track team is being coached by Stephen Murray.
Last week, the two-member swim team participated with Izaak Bastian turning in the best performance, making it back for the semi-final of the men’s 50m breaststroke. He also participated in the 100m breast, 50m free and 200m breast. He was joined by Victoria Russell in the 50m butterfly. The swim team was coached by Sara Knowles.
In 2014, the Bahamas got a pair of bronze medals from swimmer Joanna Evans and quarter-miler Henri Delauze in athletics at the second Youth Olympics in Nanjing, China.
The initial event took place in Singapore in 2010. The fourth Youth Games is all set to be staged in Dakar, Senegal, in 2022.
